The Business & The People
Turlee Station Stay is an award winning and proudly family owned and operated business. When staying at Turlee Station you can expect to be hosted by Nathen and Sophie Wakefield, along with their children, extended family and staff for your entire visit. Family and staff at Turlee pride themselves in their dedication to and interaction with guests and guarantee that a uniquely memorable time will be had by all!
Environmental Commitment
Turlee Station Stay is committed to responsible environmental practise and is currently working towards an environmental certification through implementation of water catchment systems, recycling, energy efficient practises and use of environmentally friendly products just to name a few! The staff at Turlee Station are also excited to be currently completing their certificate IV in tourism (guiding) through the newly developed Outback NSW Guides Training Course. This will see the station offering ecologically sustainable interpretation tours and activities in the very near future!
We at Turlee believe that through education we can better teach younger generations to preserve the environment that we all live in, and follow better conservation practises overall. As such, Turlee Station staff manage and monitor a 3205 hectare (7920 acre) conservation reserve on the property to better preserve the native Mallee Fowl and the Chenopod Mallee communities. The 16.5km vermin fenced reserve was an initiative of the Murray Darling Basin Catchment Management Authority and is vermin controlled and observed regularly to monitor any new growth. Interpretive signage is currently being developed for the conservation site and is hoped to promote further awareness of the importance of conservation in our habitats.
World Heritage Significance
Turlee Station Stay is located within the Willandra Lakes World Heritage area, making it a station stay with a real difference! Turlee Station is one of the only places in the world where you can experience a working Australian outback sheep, cattle and wheat station whilst also exploring and experiencing first hand, an environment of world heritage significance and value!
Location Location Location
Turlee Station is the ideal place to base yourself whilst exploring the local region. Being only 1 hour’s drive from Mildura and a short 30 minutes from Mungo (we are actually their neighbours but out here that means by 30km!!!) we are conveniently located yet secluded enough to offer the peaceful serenity you are looking for!
The Adventure!
Turlee Station Stay is one of those places that you (or maybe the kids!) can get dirty on the farm, toast a marshmallow on a roaring open fire, sight wildlife in their native habitat, learn about another culture, meet authentic bush characters and even bring Rover along for the adventure too!
